- Family and Child Services | Clark County WI
Family and Children Services Child Protective Services (CPS) Child Protective Services works to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families. The CPS unit receives and investigates reports of child abuse and neglect. What is Child Abuse and Neglect? Child maltreatment is harm or risk of harm caused to a child by a parent, caretaker, or another person responsible for the child's safety. Child maltreatment is generally divided into four basic types: 1. Physical Neglect 2. Physical Abuse 3. Sexual Abuse 4. Emotional Abuse How Do I Report Child Abuse or Neglect? If you believe a child has been abused, neglected, or is at risk of abuse or neglect, please report it to the Clark County Department of Social Services at 715-743-5233. Clark County Department of Social Services 517 Court St. Room 502 Neillsville, WI 54456 Monday - Friday 8 AM - 4:30 PM Ph: (715) 743-5233 Fx: (715) 743-5242 Toll Free: (866) 743-5233 Emergency After Hours Sheriff's Office: (715) 743-3157 In an emergency or after hours, contact your local police department or the Clark County Sheriff's Department at 715-743-5351 or 911. State law protects reporter confidentiality. We will not disclose your name to the family that is subject to the report; however, sometimes due to the nature of the information reported, your identity may become evident to the family. You may request to make your report anonymously, unless you are a mandatory reporter, but your report may be considered more credible and can be more helpful to Child Protective Services (CPS) if you give your name. What Will Happen When I Make a Report? An Access worker will write up your report. They will need to hear information about the suspected abuse or neglect. Please be prepared to provide as much information as possible. The more information that you share, the better the agency decision-making will be. A supervisor will review the report and decide if the situation meets state statutory guidelines to consider investigation ("screen in") or not ("screen out"). Once a decision is made to open a case, social workers may speak to the child, the parents, and other people in contact with the child, such as doctors, teachers, or childcare providers. The social worker's purpose is to determine if abuse or neglect has occurred and if it will happen again. If the social worker finds that no abuse or neglect occurred, or what happened does not meet the state statutory definition of abuse or neglect, the case will be closed and the family may or may not be referred elsewhere for services. If the social worker feels that the children are at risk of harm, the family may be referred to services to reduce the risk of future maltreatment. In rare cases where the child's safety cannot be ensured, the child may be removed from the home. 24 Hour Mental Health and AODA Crisis Line (800) 863-3560 or (715) 743-3400

- County Forest | Clark County WI
Forestry & Parks County Forest Timber Sales Storm Salvage Sales More More County Forest Wisconsin's County Forest Program is rich in history and admirable in accomplishments. County forests originated in the Badger State and are found in only two others, Michigan and Minnesota. County forests were created to rescue lands left abandoned by cut-and-run logging and failed homesteads of the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Clark County forest was established in 1934 and currently covers nearly 135,000 acres. This large public property is governed by the County Forest Law, which requires that it be managed for forestry purposes-including multiple uses such as recreation, wildlife habitat, and watershed protection. Clark County manages the forest resources on a sustainable basis using modern technology and progressive integrated resource management methods. Forest Certification The Clark County forest is duel certified to the standards of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®). Forest certification is a process in which forest practices are audited by an independent third party organization. Certification assures consumers that the wood products they purchase come from forests that are well managed and follow sustainable and ecologically sound practices. Forest Wildlife The landscape of the county forest supports thriving forest communities and diverse timber types. Wildlife is an integral component of the biological communities and processes that occur within the Clark County forest. Literally hundreds of species of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, and insects utilize the various habitat that are found here. Hunters take deer, bear, geese, ducks, grouse, turkeys, and a variety of other game species. One of the most notable non-game species on the forest is the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly. Clark County is part of a statewide Habitat Conservation Plan developed to allow land managers to conduct land use activities while protecting and enhancing Karner habitat and still comply with the Endangered Species Act. Recreation Opportunities The forest provides an abundance of recreational opportunities. There are many miles of county forest trails designated for snowmobiling, ATV's, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. Additionally, numerous roads and trails throughout the forest provide access for hunting and trapping, camping, scenic driving, wildlife observation, berry picking, and fishing. Click here for Clark County Forest Rules and Ordinances. While providing important habitat for wildlife and meeting the needs of a recreating public, the Clark County forest will continue to be an important supplier of raw forest products for wood-using industries. Through intensive sustainable forest management, these products and amenities are provided for future generations.
