  • CLARK COUNTY’S OPERATIONAL PLAN DUE TO COVID-19

Effective September 16, 2021, the Circuit Court of Clark County, Wisconsin, Honorable Lyndsey A.B. Brunette hereby orders the adoption and implementation of the operational plan set forth herein for in-person proceedings, remote hearings, and jury trials. The State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Clark County Health Department have recently indicated the resurgence of COVID-19 infections, including highly transmissible variants, in Clark County. Recognizing the need to ensure the health and safety of litigants, attorneys, visitors, court staff, judges, and other individuals entering the buildings housing the courts, the Clark County Circuit Court will implement the following plan. Such plan dictates how the Circuit Court will conduct in-person proceedings and jury trials in a manner that reduces to the greatest extent possible the risk of transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19 and that promotes the health and safety of all those present in the courtrooms, jury rooms, and other court-related confined spaces. • Clark County Courthouse Security Plan and Single Point Entry Procedures & Tips

The purpose of the Courthouse screening and controlled access program is to prevent weapons from entering the Courthouse. Sheriff Haines has been working closely with the Safety & Security Committee for the last year and he strongly believes a single point of entry is the best option instead of the current multiple public access points at the Courthouse. It is the Sheriff’s responsibility to ensure that anyone who visits the Clark County Courthouse is safe. Secured entry is a step in the right direction. On September 21, 2021, the Clark County Sheriff will implement secured entry into the Clark County Courthouse at 517 Court Street in Neillsville, WI in an effort to enhance the safety of the public and employees. The secured entrance and exit will be located at the Northwest first floor doors at the Courthouse along 6th Street. An entrance and exit for the handicapped and disabled only will be available at the South fifth floor doors at the Courthouse along 5th Street. The public will be allowed access using these entrances Monday – Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. In order to ensure that you have the quickest movement through the screening points, please take into consideration the following: Try not to bring anything into the Courthouse that you don’t absolutely need. The more bags you bring in, the slower the screening process will go because the bags will have to be scanned or inspected. Reduce the amount of metal that you have on your person. If you have metal objects on that can be easily removed, placing these objects into a clear bag until after you pass through screening may result in a quicker screening process. Don’t bring anything on the prohibited items list into the Courthouse. The main concern is with weapons such as knives, aerosol weapons (pepper spray) and firearms. Just like going through airport security, our security screening is all about keeping weapons out. So, all weapons (firearms, knives, tasers, martial arts weapons, chemical mace/pepper spray, batons, etc.) and items that could readily be used as a weapon will not be allowed in the Courthouse. Give yourself a few extra minutes to park and get through security. The wait to get through security should take no longer than a minute or two. We want you to make it to your meeting, court hearing, or other appointments on time, so it’s best to give yourself extra time. Increased security is always inconvenient. We owe it to all those who come to the Courthouse to provide them with a safe environment. The new measures strike the right balance by doing what we can to keep weapons out while continuing to offer the public full access to all the services the County provides. Exterior doors will be alarmed and available for emergency exit only. Signs will be posted notifying the public of access controls at the Courthouse. Sheriff Scott Haines Clark County Sheriff Office

  • Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

Click for more... Next week, April 11th – 17th is the nationally recognized Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This week long event was created by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, California in 1981. Photo 1: Deputy Ciera Federly (1 year), Deputy Stephanie Bieneck (22 years), Deputy Tammy Cook (3 years), Deputy Marissa Scheffler (5 years), Captain Lea Sterry (18 years) and Deputy Tasha Davis (6 years) This special week is a time to commemorate the hard working individuals in our emergency telecommunication centers who dispatch our officers and first responders in our greatest time of need. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definitions of dispatch is, “to send off or away with promptness or speed,” more specifically, “to send off on official business.” This seems effortless and simple, doesn’t it? Though this is methodically correct, it does not come close to defining the strength, courage and determination it takes to be a public safety telecommunicator (dispatcher). Photo 2: Back row (l-r) Deputy Marie Downs (4 months), Deputy Kelly Schmitz (3 years), Deputy Tara Strey (10 years), Deputy Heather Murphy (20 years), and Captain Lea Sterry (18 years). Front row (l-r): Deputy Stephanie Werre (2 months) and Deputy Tabitha Sazama (5 years) This profession plays an integral role in serving and keeping our community safe. These are the individuals we depend on during traumatic and emergency situations. The distinctive characteristics needed to proficiently and effectively perform these duties are found in very few. It requires an individual who has unprecedented communication skills, sound judgement, compassion and emotional control. Most of all, they have to have perseverance as they know after servicing one call, there will always be another and there is no way to prepare for what is to come. I would like everyone to remember the next time you read the paper or watch the news displaying the officers and first responders who are courageously working to save the life of a loved one or find a missing child…that it all began with the silent, hidden and all too often forgotten HERO who was sitting in the telecommunications center waiting to take your call. Because of this, I want to take a moment to thank our Clark County Telecommunicators for providing never ending, around the clock support to all of our citizens and anyone traveling through our county. I thank them for the lives they have saved and will continue save. For the positive impact they have on our county each and every day. And for choosing this profession as there are very few in the world that can do what they do! I am proud and honored to work with each and every one of them. If you happen to see one of these devoted individuals out and about, please take the time to honor and thank them for the extraordinary and underestimated duties they perform.
